PERU BALSAM (BALSAM OF PERU) OIL

Our organically crafted Peru Balsam Essential Oil is steam distilled from the beautiful, resinous material tapped from the Myroxylon balsamum var. pereirae, an evergreen tree that grows up to 120 feet and sprouts gorgeous fragrant flowers, native to Central America. The principal areas of trees from which Balsam of Peru Oil is produced are mainly along the Balsam Coast where El Salvador meets the Pacific Ocean; the trees are often planted for their shade on coffee plantations. Balsam of Peru Essential Oil has a medium strength rich, balsamic, deep Vanilla-sweet aroma with a subtle hint of cinnamon – presenting a base fragrance note. Its wonderfully soft aroma is often used in perfumes and is a great addition to floral blends.

The historical uses of Balsam of Peru date as far back as the Mayan culture where it was used as incense for medicinal purposes. Sixteenth-century popes sanctioned the substitution of Balsam of Peru for the much harder to find Mecca Balsam (Balm of Gilead) for ceremonial incense use as well as for anointing oils. In folklore, Balsam of Peru Oil was thought to attract wealth and happiness, promote creativity and dreamwork, and to protect against emotional excess. Balsam of Peru is a misnomer: the name is somewhat misleading as to its origin. In the past, the balsam was transported by land from El Salvador to coastal cities of Peru; from these ports, the balsam was shipped to other countries, thus acquiring the misconception of its origin.REPORTED BENEFITS AND USES

Our organically crafted Petitgrain Bigarade Essential Oil, also called Bitter Orange Leaf Oil, is steam distilled from the waxy green leaves and twigs of the Citrus aurantium amara (Bitter Orange) trees, also known as the Bigaradia trees, growing in the forests of Paraguay. Widely used in the perfume industry, Petitgrain Oil has fresh, leafy-green, lightly floral, citrus aroma that makes it unique and useful in a variety of settings.

The sweet smell of Petitgrain Bigarade Oil has an uplifting effect on the mind and aromatherapists often use it interchangeably with Orange Blossom or Neroli for reducing anxiety and helping to alleviate mental fatigue. PENNYROYAL OIL

Our organically crafted Pennyroyal Essential Oil is steam distilled from the leaves and flowering tops of the Mentha pulegium flowering plant in the Lamiaceae family, or mint family, native to Europe, North Africa, and the Middle East. Pennyroyal Oil contains many components, but primarily contains the Isomenthone, Neomenthone, Menthone and Pulegone. An American species, Hedeoma pulegioides, is closely related and is also used to produce oil, as well as Micromeria fruticosa from Turkey.

Also called Pennyrile, Squaw Mint, Mosquito Plant and Pudding Grass, Pennyroyal Oil has a strong fragrance similar to Spearmint and was used for centuries to flavor food, wine and Herbal & Ayurvedic Product > Herbal Teas. Pennyroyal Oil was also used as a traditional herb and folk remedy as an insect repellent and an abortifacient. PEPPERMINT OIL

Our organically crafted Peppermint Essential Oil is steam distilled from crisp, deliciously green leaves of the fragrant Mentha x piperita plant cultivated in rich green fields in the countryside of USA. Peppermint Essential Oil has the aroma of the live plant – wonderfully fresh, cool, green-herbaceous, strongly minty with a powerful menthol and sweet balsamic undertone – that can be used for both aromatherapy and natural perfumery.

True Peppermint (Mentha x piperita) is thought to be a hybrid from two other species of Mentha: Watermint (Mentha aquatica) and Spearmint (Mentha spicata) and was first described by Carl Linneaus in 1753. A high Menthol content – like that found in our Peppermint Oil – distinguishes the best quality Peppermint from other products.

The main constituent of peppermint is Menthol, a potent compound which unto itself causes a quick physical response when inhaled or applied the the skin. With its enlivening warm, herbaceous, spicy-sweet and peppery aroma, Oregano Essential Oil is certainly one of nature’s powerhouses.

Oregano is a very close relative of Marjoram, so much so there is some confusion in the cross-pollination of their names: what is known as Marjoram in Britain turns up as oregano in Italy! This is the pungently aromatic herb of southern Italy, the one that is used, mainly in its dried form, flavour pizzas and tomato sauces. Indeed, Greek cooks are convinced that dried oregano – rigani – is best used in dried and what’s more is the only herb worth drying!

Oregano Oil contains two powerful compounds, Carvacrol and Thymol, both of which have been shown in studies to have strong anti-bacterial and anti-fungal properties. PALMAROSA OIL

Our organically crafted Palmarosa Essential Oil is steam distilled from the aromatic, flowering grasses of the Cymbopogon martinii var. motia plant growing on sunny mountain slopes in Nepal. The grassy leaves of the wild-growing Palmarosa plant is in the same family as Lemongrass and Citronella. The essential oil has a smooth, fresh, sweet-grassy, mild rosy-geraniol aroma, with delicate citrus zest top notes.

With its rich distribution of Rose alcohols, Rose esters and Rose aldehydes, Palmarosa Oil truly has a complex aroma and the generally beneficial properties inherent in this arrangement of molecules. Once called Indian or Turkish Geranium oil, Palmarosa Essential Oil dates back to the Bombay shipping ports of the Red Sea and was transported partly by land, to Constantinople and Bulgaria, where the oil was often used for the adulteration of Rose Oil. PALO SANTO (HOLY WOOD) OIL

Our organically crafted Palo Santo Essential Oil is steam distilled from the aged heartwood of the ethically wildcrafted Bursera graveolens tree, growing wild in the mountains of Ecuador. Palo Santo means holy wood or sacred tree, as well as Argentine or Paraguay lignum vitae. This sacred tree has been used for centuries for its healing properties and potential to ward off negative energy.

The smoke of Palo Santo wood is traditionally used in spiritual rituals to clear negativity from a person or space, very similar to the use of White Sage in smudging practices. Bursera graveolens comes from the same botanical family (Burseraceae) as Frankincense and Myrrh and is often used to enhance meditative states in the same way as its botanical cousins – encouraging relaxation, calming the nerves and quieting mental chatter.
