MAJMUA ATTAR

ABSTRACT

Majmua is one of the most revered fragrance ever created. The word Majmua itself has become so sought-after that sometimes any splendid attar or fine fragrance is alluded to as Majmua. Majmua attar was originally created by Mr. Ismail Mohammadali Attarwala, a master perfumer, who spent nearly two decades perfecting his creation. Majmua Attar is actually a combination of four different attars: kadam, kewda, mitti and khus. Each of these four constituent attars are derived through different extraction methods and then blended in the Indian sandalwood essential oil.

Kadam attar is described as reminiscent of both neroli and champaca, and seems to be the hardest to get in attar.

Kewda attar has a beautiful earthy, refreshing balsamic scent with hints of hyacinth and honey.

Mitti attar has an earthy and sublime aroma of rain-drenched baked earth.

Khus attar is green, full-bodied, softly sweet, earthy aroma with a hint of mint.

This makes the fragrance of Majmua quite complex but very evolving, the diverse notes come and go in the span of several hours. The attar doesnu2019t have any conventional top, heart or base note, but still it has a beginning, a middle and an end. With its magnificently complex and captivating fragrance, this attar is reminiscent of the beauty of the monsoon season, when the richly aromatic plant life of India springs to life and fills up the atmosphere with their invigorating aromas.

Ruh Juhi is a amber to pale yellow liquid diffusing a delectable, warm, fresh, sweet, floral bouquet aroma with a rich balsamic, honeyed undertones. The fragrance of ruh juhi is totally free of the indolic and animal notes that are often found in Jasmine absolutes.

Difference between Ruh and Attar

The main difference between a ruh and an attar is that in distilling the ruh the receiving vessel contains no sandalwood oil. In short it is a pure essential distilled from the flower petals under reduced pressure and low temperatures. The yield of the oil is almost half of what can be prospected if the same flowers were subjected through extraction with solvents to produce a concrete which is then washed with alcohol to finally produce the absolute. Even the cost is substantially higher than the absolute. The odor profile is also very different as the distillation process captures more of the top notes and lesser base notes than the absolute.
