Description
Our organically crafted Niaouli Essential Oil is steam distilled from the grey-green leaves of the Melaleuca quinquenervia native to New Caledonia, Papua New Guinea and coastal Australia but thrives in other regions including Madagascar. Niaouli has several different chemotypes and this particular Niaouli Essential Oil is 1,8-Cineole chemotype and has a earthy, fruity, lemony, sweet, camphor-like aroma.
Niaouli Oil may be used in place of Tea Tree Oil when the smell of Tea Tree is found objectionable due to its somewhat medicinal aroma and with less tendency to irritate the skin. The medicinal and aromatic properties of the two are considered similar, yet Niaouli Essential Oil has a sweeter, less harsh scent and thus is employed more commonly for respiratory issues.
Niaouli Essential Oil is comprised of approximately 60% 1,8-Cineole, an oxide that is also abundant in Eucalyptus Globulus Essential Oil and that gives Eucalyptus its distinctive fresh-medicinal aroma. Melaleuca quinquinervia viridiflora is one of four commercially important and aromatherapeutically significant species of the genus Melaleuca, the other three being M. alternifolia (Tea Tree) and M. cajuputi (Cajuput) and M. ericifolia (Rosalina).REPORTED BENEFITS AND USES
