Acai Berry Extract is derived from the fruits (or berries) of Euterpe oleracea, popularly known as the Assai Palm or Acai Palm, a species of palm trees Arecaceae native to Brazil and other regions of South and Central America. It contains 0.05 – 0.2% of total polyphenols. Acai Fruit Extract is very useful for the formulation of cosmetic products designed to protect the integrity of skin and hair against oxidative processes. It is also useful to formulate cosmetic products with toning and general circulation stimulating activity and cosmetic products with firming and healing properties.

The Acai Palm bears small, dark purple berries produced in branched clusters of 500 to 900 fruits. The local and indigenous river people in the Amazon forest have been consuming Acai Berries for hundreds of years and it can make up to 80% of their diet. In Brazilian herbal medicine, an infusion of the grated fruit rind is used as a topical wash for skin ulcers and the fruit seeds are crushed and prepared in an infusion for fevers.
